From Policy to Practice

Rethinking Urban Regeneration in the J14–Rasadnik Quarter

Nadica Angova Kolevska — Lecturer, International Balkan University

At FABER Forum 2025, Nadica Angova Kolevska explored how urban regeneration moves from written policy into lived, everyday urban reality through the case of the J14–Rasadnik quarter.

In her talk, she examined the complex relationship between strategic planning and real implementation, highlighting how regeneration often reveals a gap between institutional frameworks and the actual needs of communities. Drawing on research and local case studies, she reflected on questions of spatial justice, access, and inclusion, and how these concepts shape the success or failure of redevelopment efforts.

Her presentation emphasized that meaningful urban transformation is not only about physical renovation, but about listening to communities, recognizing social dynamics, and translating policy into practices that genuinely improve everyday urban life.
