About FABER
The Forum for Active Built Environment Research (FABER) is an annual event held in Tirana, Albania. It is dedicated to promoting and disseminating knowledge and best practices concerning the sustainable development of urban areas.
In 2022, this significant gathering unfolded in Tirana, aligning seamlessly with the local government’s strategic initiative to enhance the active mobility network. This initiative manifested through an ambitious program aimed at upgrading cycling and pedestrian infrastructure across the city. Building on the success of the previous edition, the focal point of FABER2023 revolved around Urban Planning in the Western Balkans. The focal point of this edition revolved around Urban Planning in the Western Balkans. The overarching theme of FABER 2023 was explored through three distinct tracks: (1) Mobility and Urban Design, (2) Housing Systems, and (3) EU Policy Integration.

Each year, FABER brings together architects, planners, policymakers, researchers, and students from Albania and abroad to exchange ideas and showcase innovation. The forum creates a space for dialogue on how technology, design, and investment can build cities that are not only smart, but also inclusive, sustainable, and human-centered.
In 2025, FABER is proud to stand on the global stage as part of World Cities Day, reinforcing our mission to connect local creativity with international expertise. Over two days, the Forum will feature keynote speeches, expert panels, and the international EXPO – (Dis)Connected, curated in collaboration with the LSE Middle East Centre, Abu Dhabi University, and Polis University.
