Dr. José Mayoral – Someş River

Dr. José Mayoral – Partner, PRÁCTICA

In this lecture, Dr. José Mayoral presents the Someş River project, drawing on his extensive academic and professional experience in architecture, urbanism, and landscape transformation. As a partner at PRÁCTICA and a scholar with a PhD from both the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Università Iuav di Venezia, Mayoral brings a globally informed perspective on how river systems can shape urban identity, ecological resilience, and public life.

His work spans international institutions and exhibitions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Venice Architecture Biennale. He has taught at Harvard GSD, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and ETSAM, where he currently serves as a lecturer. A co-curator of the XX Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism of Chile – Diálogos Impostergables, Mayoral examines how cities adapt to environmental, social, and cultural pressures.

Through publications such as Ephemeral Urbanism: Cities in Constant Flux and Planning with Conservation, he investigates transitional landscapes, conservation-based frameworks, and new forms of urban coexistence. This talk reflects PRÁCTICA’s multidisciplinary approach and explores how landscape, water systems, and urban design intersect in shaping the future of the Someş River corridor.
